Workshops

Orchid Workshops are held at times during the year both at the main group and The Southern Region Group. Experienced growers and judges offer their expertise to the newer growers with potting demonstrations, breaking up and re-potting instructions and general tips for successfully growing the particular genre of orchid.

2014 Workshops:

Main Group Workshop No.1: The first workshop for the year was held on the 15th of February 2014 hosted by Judy and Rod McRedmond. The weather was kind to us and Judy and Rod passed on a lot of information about things they have put into practice since joining our club 10 years ago. Morning tea was yummy. We wandered through their shade house and looked at their hot house and watering system. We saw first hand how they automatically mist their growing areas and saw the pump system used to fertilize their plants using rain water.Thank you both for the opportunity to visit your garden.

Main Group Workshop No.2: Twenty two members attended Daniel Lutz’s Workshop. The Lutz family made us very welcome and the day was perfect with all the preparations and homework beforehand. Daniel spoke on most aspects on how he grows his Cymbidiums, starting his presentation with how he met Lucy at Pasadena Show and being invited to the meeting when he was 10 years old. Daniel showed us all around his shade houses and was the perfect host.Thank you to the Lutz family for a wonderful afternoon.
